I found these postcards on ebay a while back. They give you some perspective as to how Academy High was viewed by the public in Erie shortly after it's construction. Academy was a very high profile building!
Above: A great look at the school from the football field. If you've never seen the school from this angle I highly recommend it. You may have to sneak on to the field after a football game.
Above: The trees planted on the north and east sides of the stadium are long gone. There is much more development on the property between State Street and Glenwood Parkway. It looks like you would encounter nothing but trees the whole way to the Erie Zoo!

Welcome to the Academy Neighborhood in the City of Erie. Our neighborhood is a few short minutes from downtown Erie and is full of charming homes and proud residents (And let's not forget Mighty Fine Donuts!).
The neighborhood is very loosely defined as State Street near Collegiate Academy. Also French, Holland, and German Streets from East 26th to East 33rd. This is by no means a definitive boundary! It is just the starting point for our neighborhood efforts.
Our first ever Academy Neighborhood Yard/Garage Sale is coming up Saturday, June 9th, 2012. It starts at 8 a.m. and continues through the early afternoon. Everyone is welcome to participate! If you have a garage, porch, or yard you can have a sale June 9th! If you want to have a sale contact Bob through this blog. I am compiling a list of all of the homes participating. As of right now we are not planning on spending money to advertise. We are going to rely on word of mouth, this blog, and the Academy Neighborhood Association facebook page to spread the word.
So tell a neighbor! They may not have heard. And if you aren't having a sale June 9th take some time to walk the neighborhood, get to know your neighbors, and shop for bargains!
